Hundreds of people evacuated from nearby due to fire in storage batteries Stella Cycling in Nunspeet
The smoke and other substances released during the fire in Nunspeet on Wednesday gave so many complaints that the Safety Region North and East Gelderland decided to evacuate the area around the building. The property includes batteries and accumulators stored.
At least dozens of people reported complaints. It was scaled up to a so-called 'grip 3', which means that up to a high level of the municipality, the king's commissioner and other government bodies are informed and called in.
The batteries are stored in special containers when they are removed from the premises, says fire brigade officer Robert Spijkerman. You can start with that, because the fire itself is under control.
Shelter in sports hall
A sports hall opened up for people who had to leave their home because of the smoke and toxic substances in the air. The area where people suffer, extends from the building where the fire raged to several kilometers further.
An NL-Alert was sent twice before.
The fire brigade called on windows and doors to stay closed and stay indoors. Eventually so switched to evacuation.
Mayor Breunis van de Weerd is at the scene of the fire. He tells Omroep Gelderland: 'I call people to leave their homes and go as far as possible to friends and family. We think it is important to have the area empty. Leave the neighborhood. "
Van de Weerd explains: 'Short-term stay in the smoke is not very harmful. Put a wet cloth in front of your mouth and walk to the car. Long-term stay can be harmful. We think it can continue to smolder until 12 o'clock tonight. "
The municipality did not want to wait for the results of the smoke measurements and therefore cleared out as a precaution. Around 10 pm it should be known whether people can go home again tonight.

Highly dangerous poison stolen from museum Leiden
During a burglary in Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden last night a jar of deadly poison was stolen. It is about the very toxic curare. Indigenous peoples in South America use this drug as an arrow poison in hunting.
The stuff was stored in a safe in a depot of the museum. The entire safe was taken away with the burglary. The poison is a black block that is slightly smaller than a sugar cube. The block is in a glass jar with a red lid, writes Omroep West.
The police and the museum call people who find the poison to contact them directly and not to touch it.
"The poison was offered to us", says museum director Amito Haarhuis. "We did not want to include it in our collection and distribute it in a decent way through a special company, it was stored in the safe for so long that no accidents would happen."
He does not think it is deliberately stolen. "I can imagine that the burglars wanted to steal the safe, not knowing that there was a poison in it."
In the vault in the depot, apart from the poison, there was also a sum of money, but according to the director that may not have a name. "As far as we know, nothing else has been stolen"
When can people return home? Burgemeester Breunis van de Weerd: 'The fire is under control, so the clean-up starts. By cleaning up the fire can flare up again and substances are released again.
There are a lot of batteries. That is why we advise you to stay away for a while. If possible, stay overnight where you are. If that does not work, people can go to the sports hall. The municipality then arranges the overnight stay.
Failure in online payment due to software error
The major disruption that made part of the payment system in the Netherlands impossible last night was the result of a software error. That says Mastercard, the company responsible for the outage.
"I have been working in payments for eight years," says Arjan Bol, responsible for payments by Mastercard in the Netherlands. "This is the first time I experience this."
According to Bol, it went wrong with a system update that the company carried out last night. "Such a software update is similar to an iOS update for iPhones."
What exactly went wrong with that update is not clear yet. "We are working on the evaluation."
From the whole country there were reports from 7 pm that people could not use their Maestro debit card. The cause appears to be a fault with Maestro owner Mastercard. Shortly after 9 pm the payment company reported that the problems had been resolved.
People could not pay at, for example, petrol stations, shops and even at the Eminem concert in Nijmegen. However, in some people money has been deducted from their account, but the payment was therefore not accepted by the cash machine.
It is unknown how many people have not been able to pay and how many transactions have failed. According to Dutch Payments Association, not everyone was affected by the outage and some people could just pay for that time or withdraw money.
Dutch holidaymakers
The Dutch abroad also suffered from the pinstoring. For example, holidaymakers in restaurants could not pay their evening meal everywhere with the debit card or credit card.
Customers of ABN Amro, Rabobank, ING and SNS, among others, suffered from the outage. People also say that Mastercard credit cards were refused internationally.
Last month there was a major disruption at Visa, so that European customers could not settle their credit card for hours.
Surgeries canceled in hospital Hoorn as a result of computer failure
The "Wesfriesgasthuis" in Hoorn has canceled a number of surgeries on Tuesday, because the hospital was hit by a computer outage.
According to a spokesman for the hospital, on Monday afternoon equipment "virtual overturned", resulting in a computer failure, the "Noordhollands Dagblad" reports Tuesday.
There is a server in the server room, but it is unclear whether storage has taken place. It failed to store memories from Monday to Tuesday at night.
The waiting times at outpatient clinics have increased considerably as a result of the storage. People have to wait for hours. In addition to operations, some other agreements can not be continued.
On Tuesday morning only 150 computers of the hospital were operational. Normally there are fourteen hundred. Due to the problems, the hospital has limited access to patient records.
In 2017, it turned out that with the Westfriesgasthuis one of the fifteen Dutch hospitals had been infected with ransomware.
